Van der Laat & Jiménez Construction Company initiates its activities in 1969. The engineers Rodrigo Van der Laat Ulloa and Ricardo A. Jiménez Montealegre establish the company to actively participate in the construction field throughout the country. They were later joined by Engineer Víctor Acón Jiménez, to complement their skills and knowledge in the technical and managerial fields.

In addition to its basic activities in construction, the company has diversified into other areas such as commercial and residential real estate developments. The OMNI office and shopping center, in downtown San José , is just one example of the projects built by Van der Laat & Jiménez.

In 1992, the restoration of a turn of a century mansion in one of the oldest neighborhoods of the country begins. By 1993, the project is completed and the Britannia Hotel opens its doors, and so does the company to the tourism industry.
